Piedmont Wildlife Center Voted Best Nonprofit and Recognized in Multiple Categories by WRAL’s 2024 Voters’ Choice Awards

We are rooted in gratitude and buzzing with excitement that Piedmont Wildlife Center was voted 'Best Nonprofit' in WRAL's 2024 Voters' Choice Awards!

Whether you nominated us, voted for us, supported us throughout our journey, or all of the above—thank you. Since 2003, your support has propelled us forward as we educate Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and beyond on the importance of conservation and fostering meaningful connections between people and nature.

In addition to being named Best Nonprofit, we were honored as finalists in the Camp, Birthday Party Venue, and Volunteer Organization categories.

A special thank you to WRAL for hosting these awards and highlighting local businesses and nonprofits like ours!

This recognition inspires us to continue growing our public conservation and education programs, helping more people engage with native wildlife, connect with the wonders of nature, and understand the vital role we all play in protecting them.

PWC Voted Best Summer Camp & Best-Kept Secret in Durham

You came through for us, friends: Piedmont Wildlife Center is officially the Best Summer Camp AND Best-Kept Secret in Durham County, according to INDY Week's 2023 Best of the Triangle awards! We were also a runner up for Best Kids Non-Profit in Durham County.

We're so humbled by the support you've shown us this year. Awards like this aren't just bragging rights. They help us connect even more people with nature by raising awareness of our mission and reaching new audiences who will benefit from our life-changing programs.

Whether you nominated us, voted for us, or simply spread the word, thank you. A small non-profit like PWC is only as strong as our community - and lucky for us, our Piedmont family is the best around!

PWC board member wins volunteer award

A huge congratulations to Dominique Cole Johnson (second from right), who won Outstanding Board Director at the Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center’s 2022 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award & Key Volunteer of the Year Awards for her service on PWC's board of directors!

Despite her busy work life as vice president at Pinnacle Financial Partners, Dom joined PWC's board in February 2020. As Board Treasurer, she used her business expertise to assist our Executive Director during a time of pandemic-related operational challenges. When a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion task force was formed, Dom helped guide our staff to a better understanding of how to welcome diverse populations. She attended almost every fundraising and community event, greeting guests and sharing her enthusiasm for our mission. Dom always has a positive, upbeat attitude and works tirelessly to encourage our staff.

We're so proud to have you on our team, Dom! Thank you for all you do for our PWC community.
