field trips

Our field trip programs get students outside and observing the world around them. On a field trip to Piedmont Wildlife Center, students can explore our trails, meet our wildlife ambassadors, and learn how easy it is to help protect North Carolina’s habitats and wildlife. Our program discussions are led by students’ interests and questions.  If you have a specific topic you would like your visit to focus on, just let us know! Field trips TO PWC are only booked during the months of March - October.

For groups larger than 40 total participants, we’ll plan to do a 1.5 hour long field trip, splitting the group into multiple, smaller groups and alternating between meeting the animals at our outdoor amphitheater and going on a tour of our outdoor raptor enclosures.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the outdoor and wooded nature of our programs, some parts of the program/tour will be inaccessible to wheelchairs, walking aids and those with additional mobility concerns. Since we are on a City of Durham park, we are limited in the improvements and additions we can implement. If you have any concerns or questions, please call us at 919-489-0900 prior to booking a tour or program.

wild neighbors

In this program, we explore the world of wildlife with a special focus on what people can do to help wild animals. In this fun, engaging experience, students will meet some of our live animal ambassadors including native North Carolina reptiles and mammals. All of our ambassadors have a story to tell and a lesson to teach us all about how we can help the wildlife in our own backyards. Our special focus will be on the needs of the native animals of the Piedmont of North Carolina.

Raptors alive

A close up look at birds of prey. Students will meet live raptors (owls, hawks) and learn the habits and habitats of these amazing birds. Raptors are some of the fiercest hunters over the skies of North Carolina. Students will meet these birds face to face and learn a few of their amazing adaptations. This program is packed with surprising facts, interesting stories and intriguing questions. Join us as we bring the world of the raptors alive for your students.
