Our hearts are heavy after recently saying goodbye to one of our Ambassador Animals, Olive the opossum. Olive was an active and lovable girl, and most importantly, a fantastic ambassador for her species. Unfortunately, her health and mobility has deteriorated over the past several months, and we felt it was in her best interest to prevent her from suffering any pain.
Olive was just over 4 years old--well past the life expectancy of wild opossums (2 years), and while we always prefer opossums to stay wild when they can, we are grateful she spent so much of that time at PWC. Our animal caretakers and educators gave her a life full of enrichment and incredible care!
Olive touched thousands of lives in our programs, showing just how amazing opossums are and how critical they are to our ecosystems. We will miss her many antics (digging in trash, dominating in tic-tac-toe, and slobbering on shoes, to name a few) dearly.
We'd love for you to share photos or memories you have of Olive. If you feel inclined to make a contribution in her honor, you can donate to the Gail E. Abrams Wildlife Ambassador Fund through our donation page.
