Something "nutty" has been going on behind the scenes at Piedmont Wildlife Center...
Introducing our newest Ambassador Animal: Scout the Eastern Gray Squirrel!
Scout came to us in May from Our Wild Neighbors in Hillsborough. He couldn't be released into the wild because he is blind, but he doesn't let that slow him down! Scout is very active and enjoys exploring his new enclosure, climbing on our conservation staff, and eating nuts - especially walnuts and pecans!
We hope Scout will serve as a fantastic ambassador for our state mammal—squirrels are known to cause mischief in flower pots, bird feeders, and more, while also being an important aspect of ecosystems as seed-spreaders. We plan to provide ideas on how to coexist with these fascinating critters and keep them happy and healthy!
Want to show your love for our newest ambassador? A $5 donation will feed Scout for one week (nuts aren't cheap!).
Stay tuned for more exciting Scout news this summer!
